The city is full of life and motorbikes that zooms the street at every waking moment. In the midst of it all are boundary lines that divide the city into many districts, each having it’s own unique identity and style. While some districts have a dense population and tight spaces, other districts are less crowded and have more breathing room. Having an apartment in Ho Chi Minh City will let you experience all of the hustle and bustle of this ever-growing, densely populated city. We’d recommend taking some time to soak up Ho Chi Minh City and all of the districts even though it might take you a few months.
District 1 & District 3, Ho Chi Minh City
Hold on to your hats as motorbikes fly through the bustling streets of District 1 & 3 and don’t forget, pedestrians DO NOT have the “right of way” against cars in Vietnam. It’s one of the busiest districts in the lively city. Think “New York” (well maybe not that big) when you think of District 1—highly populated and dense.
There are hundreds of businesses, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and even shopping malls with many international brand name shops. Living in District 1, you’ll also find international businesses, admin government offices and the general consulates.
District 1 & 3 has most of the serviced apartments for rent in the entire city and they are generally tailored for expatriates with corporate packages. You can find many restaurants and services that can equal the price of highly developed countries, but if you’d prefer not to pay the premium, there are also a lot of local shops with amazing food that can be found if you know where to look.

District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
If you need more space and breathing room, be sure to check into District 2, where serviced apartment rentals are not the only living option. In District 2, villa compounds for rent are plentiful.
District 2’s villa compounds are some of the most beautiful homes for rent in Ho Chi Minh City. They generally have their own large yards, swimming pools and other neighborhood amenities such as tennis courts, playgrounds and gyms. Another advantage of living in District 2 is that many of the international schools are located here.
Think homes in district 2 as, “family friendly” while living in district 1 for the more active and fast pace lifestyle.

District 7, Ho Chi Minh City
If you’re missing the green grass, trees and spacious open roads, drop into District 7, Phu My Hung (Saigon South) and you’ll see much more there than in District 1 & 3. Similar to district 2, there is much more breathing room here as the population density is much lower than the city.
There has been much development in District 7, which includes department stores, movie theaters, coffee shops, restaurants and bars. This vicinity attracts more expats with families because of its openness and more contemporary designs gives it one of the closest “western-feels” in all of Ho Chi Minh City.
District 7 also contains a few serviced apartments for rent in Ho Chi Minh City, however nothing near the service apartments in District 1 and District 3.

District Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City
Binh Thanh District is just north of District 1 and a short ways from the heart of the City. Passing through Binh Thanh District is the quickest route to District 2. The district is famous to English schoolteachers because of its less expensive apartment rentals in Ho Chi Minh City. This however, doesn’t necessarily apply for the serviced apartments located here. Binh Thanh is also full of local restaurants and shops that is worth exploring.
It can get fairly difficult to get around in Binh Thanh district because there seems to always be construction happening. Similar to District 1 and 3, however, traffic gets bad during rush hour. In addition to that, when the heavy raining seasons come around, floods generally occur in specific areas and can get dangerous if you are on a motorbike.
If this doesn’t concern you too much, Binh Thanh District is also a good place to rent apartments in Saigon.

Ho Chi Minh City is home to many serviced apartments scattered throughout the city, across many districts. Here, you can expect to see large, multinational serviced apartments to small, boutique-style serviced apartments. The concentration of most of the serviced apartments here are located in District 1.
In Ho Chi Minh City, you cannot expect for all of the serviced apartments to be the same in terms of quality, comfort, amenities, facilities etc. Some serviced apartments have been around for a while and have yet to be renovated, therefore, the quality does not match up with the newer serviced apartments. The differences can be seen in the furniture (beds, couches, chairs, tables etc.), curtains, kitchen, floors, lighting and AC system (external).
The rental rate for the serviced apartments in Ho Chi Minh City varies greatly due to location. District 1 for example, is known to have the most expensive serviced apartment because of its central location. You can expect to see serviced apartments ranging from $3,000 upward to $8,000 in District 1 (inclusive of utilities). Most often times expats feel that the value they are paying does not match up with what they are getting in return, and this is because most of the serviced apartments in Ho Chi Minh City are priced toward expats with corporate packages. Here at Spot, we have strong bargaining and negotiating power with landlords and property managers, therefore, we will get the fairest rental rates for you.

Below are a few popular apartments where expats like to reside in Ho Chi Minh City:
Are you moving to Vietnam with your family? Need a spacious, safe and peaceful area to live away from all the congestion and noise and closer to your children’s international school? Well, Ho Chi Minh City is made up of different districts, and mainly District 2 and District 7 that are home to quite a few compounds where expatriates tend to reside with their families. District 2 (An Phu – Thao Dien 1 & Thao Dien 2), is popular among more western expats while District 7 (Phu My Hung – Saigon South), is popular among more eastern expats. The compounds in both areas are quite limited in Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, we suggest that when families are doing a home search for a villa in either district, the decision to rent the villa must be made quickly before the home becomes unavailable by another tenant.
Most of the villas in the compounds generally come with a pool, yard and garage. Community facilities, mainly in the larger compounds include: tennis courts, community pool, gym and children’s play area.
While the villas in the compounds have security guards, it is advised that each tenant hires a private 24/7 security guard for his or her own house. Compounds are safer areas to live inside, however, robberies can and do occur from time to time.
Please know that as a Spot client, we will advise you in which areas you should consider when moving to Ho Chi Minh City. Villas vs. City-style Houses
Villas: the villas for rent in Ho Chi Minh City are large and spacious and are considered “mansions” in Vietnamese terms. They are different from the Vietnamese city-style houses because their architecture and they each have their own private lot that generally comes with a pool and yard.
